Ordering Movie Titles

Despite the hype surrounding any new movie that claims to be a directors’ ‘greatest work’ or an actors ‘award winning’ performance, the reality is that the audience would much rather watch a movie than read about it’s creators. To this end producing a sequence of titles or credits that remain of a significant interest (to anyone other than to those listed) is still a challenge to any film make.

In fact some of the greatest movies have no opening credits at all for example The Godfather and Apocalypse Now. The film Citizen Kane only has the name of the movie at the beginning, saving all the credits for the end.

‘Contractual issues’ and ‘actor egos’ account for much of the final order in which titles appear but there seems to be a general running order as follows:

News headlines used as inspiration for story lines in my potential Thriller.

'Man Dies Rescuing Autistic Boy From River'

… becomes a Crime Thriller movie.

Timothy Jones an 8 year old autistic boy witnesses the brutal murder of a police officer by a member of a notorious drug gang. His testimony is the only thing that will bring the killer to justice. However, two days before he is due to give his evidence the boy vanishes. The penultimate scene of this movie sees the desperate gang members throw the boy off a bridge in to the fast moving river below. A selfless detective involved in the search dives in to rescue the boy. He manages to save the boy but due to cold and exhaustion is unable to save himself. In the final scene the boy’s evidence sees the killer sentenced.

‘Teenage surfer bitten on foot’
… becomes a Horror Thriller movie.

Anthony Green a 17 year old student living on the Australian coast became the second victim of the week to receive unusual bite marks to his foot. Unlike the usual ragged tears left by sharks, these puncture wounds were more like something a vampire would leave on the neck of his victims. Could there be a yet undiscovered species of ‘vampire fish’ lurking at the local beach? The movie follows the tracking and eventual snaring of a bizarre and horrifying creature that was the result of a marine experiment that went wrong.

‘Poisonous spider found in supermarket bananas’
... becomes a comedy thriller

Edwin Carter-Smith is desperate to prove to the selectors at MI5 that they have made a grave error in rejecting his application to join the elite band of spies. In a ‘Mr Bean’ style comedy of errors Edwin attempts to assassinate the visiting President of an oppressive African regime as he misheard a conversation when at MI5 leading him to believe that a successful operation could land him the top job.
